Typically, a landman’s job is to negotiate and finalize contracts with landowners with mineral rights to lease those rights to the company they represent.

Essentially, they manage the land and secure the leases so that they can drill for oil and gas. Similar to a foreman on a construction site, they build roads, worker housing (a human camp), oversee the assembly of excavation machinery, and the drilling of the well site itself, especially in remote locations. They are also part of the fixer, problem solver, and facilitator..

I’m sure you’ll figure out which one!

Landman is my first Taylor Sheridan series, so I don’t have the expectations that seem to come from being a Yellowstone fan. The main plot so far has been engaging and exciting without being too over the top. There are a few subplots that are well done in the episodes, but perhaps one of them compromises the overall quality of the show.

The cast portrays their characters well

The visual production is remarkable; the direction and environmental creation are a delight. It would be interesting to get the opinion of people who work in the industry on how realistic the field scenes are. Billy Bob Thornton is exemplary and really carries the show well.

Overall a very good series, visually well executed and superbly acted
